The challenge
To turn maritime transit time into a strategic business opportunity for the largest ferry company in Greece. Thousands of passengers travel daily with no access to digital services during the crossing.
The main technical obstacle: the limited, unstable satellite connectivity in maritime environments, which made it impossible to rely on external servers for a smooth experience.
Technical solution
An experience marketplace “mid-voyage”
Onboard internal-server application
We built an application hosted on the fleet's internal servers, enabling a smooth experience for passengers without depending on external satellite connection. The React-based interface was optimized so users can access it from their own smartphones or tablets over the ship's local network.
A sales and destination-experiences ecosystem
The platform lets passengers explore and buy activities, tours and exclusive experiences for their destination before disembarking. An offers engine was implemented to provide special discounts at partner merchants and local services, encouraging immediate spending.
Data integration and synchronization
The system uses Python (Django) to manage business logic and sync transactions with the central system once the ship reaches port or regains a stable connection. Data on passenger preferences is captured to optimize the service offering on future routes.
